Shotokan KarateShotokan Karate at GOSHIN
in Arnhem
At Karate-Do Goshin you learn Shotokan karate. It's about more than martial arts alone: you work on your fitness, strength, flexibility and reflexes, and at the same time develop focus, discipline and self-confidence.
Our classes are for everyone aged 16 and up, beginner or advanced: you train at your own pace. The first 2 weeks are free to try, no membership required.
Training
Under the guidance of Franc, training takes place three times a week. Every class has a clear structure. Both at the start and at the end of training, members greet the sensei (instructor). These moments also serve as a kind of meditation. After the greeting comes the warm-up and conditioning, where the sensei emphasizes that everyone sets their own pace. Then follow the karate exercises, which fall into different categories: the forms without an opponent, Kihon and Kata, in which the various techniques are practiced, and the fight with an opponent, Kumite, where all kinds of strikes, kicks, throws and sweeps are applied. All movements are controlled and deliberate.
At Goshin, karate is more than combat sport alone: alongside technique, strikes, kicks and blocks, you also train sparring, conditioning, strength, body control and flexibility. Not just competitive sport-karate, not just traditional kata practice β karate as one complete, holistic martial art.
Alongside standard karate, practical self-defense and resilience techniques are also practiced, known as Goshin-Jitsu (Goshin = self-defense, Jitsu = technique).
Training takes place 3 times a week in the gym "De Symfonie" (Valckenierstraat 1, 6828 RM Arnhem, the Netherlands). See the schedule for exact days and times, or the exam requirements per belt.

What members say
A really nice dojo to train at. Good teachers, solid training, a pleasant atmosphere, and a good balance between kihon, kata and kumite make for a great training environment. You really learn to defend yourself here.
Goshin is a friendly club where training is taken seriously, but where enjoying the sport definitely matters too. We train for exams, but also mix in self-defense. A pleasant club with a warm atmosphere.
Shotokan Karate-Do Goshin Arnhem has existed since 1983 and I train here with great pleasure! From young (16 and up) to old, you can train here. It's a close-knit and sporty group of karateka.
